For the first time since the sad passing of Gary Speed on the 27th November 2011, Leeds United hosted Everton, two teams in which Gary had successful spells with.
The game concluded at Leeds 2 Everton 1, with goals for Leeds from Aidan White and Rodolph Austin, whilst Evertons consulation goal in the 80th came from Sylvain Distin.
Before kick off, Leeds United and Everton fans paid tribute to Gary Speed as a video of the midfielder was shown on the big screen at Elland Road.
Throughout the match, fans chanted and sung his name, when on the 11th minute of the Capital One League Cup fixture, both teams supporters chanted for 11 minutes.
This isn’t the first occasion that Leeds fans have done this. When, just after the death of Gary Speed, Leeds United fans sang for a whole 11 minutes, as a mark of respect for the legend who was Leeds United’s number 11.
