Opinion: What The One Direction Fans Really Think
On the 15th of August 2013, Channel 4 presented a documentary called “Crazy About One Direction”. The aim of the documentary was to showcase the new form of idolatry.
“Crazy About One Direction”, showcased some of the most influential 1D fans that network via Twitter and discussed a wide range of subjects.
The general reaction from the One Direction fans were infact upset, embarrassed and found it rather cringeworthy with fans stating their anger on Twitter.
One Direction (1D) documentary broadcasted on Channel 4
Lifestyle Uncut spoke to Amelia from @1Dupdates2 who said this about the documentary:
“Crazy About One Direction was the most unfair and inaccurate representation of 1D fans I have ever seen.”
“As I run a highly followed fan account on twitter I talk to One Direction fans every day and 98% of them are totally sane, lovely, respectful and caring, they are not these crazy, obsessive people that the channel 4 program has made us out to be.”
“Of course you do get the occasional fan who is completely obsessed with the boys, who stalks them, who gets excited at the mere fact they’re in the same country as them and will do absolutely anything to get closer to the boys, you also get the deluded fans who ‘ship’ Larry and genuinely think they are in a relationship but this is such a low percentage of the fandom and I think the creators of this program have been totally irresponsible as they haven’t shown the amazing side of the fandom – the side that help charities, stick up for each other, support each other, respect One Direction and their privacy, and are proud and happy of the success they have achieved. This documentary has disappointed me because now more people will unfairly stereotype 1D fans as how they were portrayed in the program but this is not us.”
One Direction (1D) fans unhappy with “Crazy About One Direction”
Lifestyle Uncut also questioned Lucy from @truetomlinsters
“So, I turned it on hoping it would be like Demi Lovato’s:Stay Strong documentary, and all of a sudden there’s girls kissing benches which Harry sat on, and another getting braces due to the fact Niall had them. I was in shock, and utter embarrassment. Embarrassing due to the fact it portrayed us to be some psychotic fans, when in reality, thats only a small number.”
“I just pray that the boys find it funny rather than disowning us because we all know only few are like that. This is about 0.00001%, with the odd fan, but I chat to fans everyday, and none I’ve come across are like that.”
